potato plow

how is this used? Can it be placed into a 144 cultivator to dig potatoes? Front or back?

The only picture I can find of it is in the cub 252 cultivator as a "irrigation attachment" on page 31.

we call them middle busters here. If you plowed potatoes with it in the front the rear wheels of the tractor would run over part of the taters

You might have to rig a crossbar to center the plow.

The guy I bought this from also had a middle buster. The middle buster was much bigger, maybe 3 times bigger than this plow. this plow is much small than a middle buster.

Anyone have a mounting picture? I was told it could work with a 144 cultivator.

My potato plow is much bigger than the one you have posted

If your taters are not big or the ridges,(assuming you did ridge them) is not too wide or tall the small ones would work, but as Boss stated,--- bigger is better!
I had to make my own digger (30" wide) because my ridges are 30" wide and 15" tall and full of spuds to the edge, some get cut but most come out clean.
You will have to be the judge of what size you will need for your use. thanks; sonny

It is also good for making irrigation ditches.

If you use a shovel on the cultivator,--you might want to remove the front sweeps so that you dont cut the taters,--no matter what size they are!---aint nuttin wrong with small taters either!---I have a second late planting that are going to be small, and we will harvest them too!---Happy diggin!!LOL!! thanks; sonny

PS----you could also use it for deep tillage tool by making several passes going deeper each pass!

So can this tool be used on the rear 144 cultivator or would that give too much stress on the finals without jockey arch or some type of bar like the cub-3?

The picture above is on a 144. I made the crossbar from pipe and square tubing. I use it to lay off rows, and nothing has broke, or bent yet.
I split my lifts with a hand lift, and use the front section with hillers to cover hand dropped potato or onion sets. You can see how deep you are covering with the front gang.

Thank you. That is very helpful. I've never thought of using a hand lift for the rear and the hydraulics for the front. The bar looks like an easy welding project.
