This cub belonged to my dad who passed away in 2015. It has been sitting for the most part and I decided I need a project so here I am. After I installed new points, condenser, cap, plugs, and wires I put a rebuild kit in the carb and it ran like a champ. I’m sure I will have more questions but my first is this. Is there a way to determine the serial number, or even get close, without the tag on the frame? The tag is there but totally unreadable. Any help is very much appreciated and general comments are most welcome.
I tried to upload some photos but was unable to swing it. As soon as I get some instruction from my son I will.

Re: Lo Boy 154 renovation project and question
You can check the casting codes and get a general idea of the build time frame but unless you can recover the serial number from the tag you're probably out of luck. You might try removing the tag and see if there are any numbers stamp marks visible from the back side. The engine SN can provide a general idea of the build time also. If most of the casting codes match for month and year you can be assured that it was built after that date. I have a 76 Longstripe that has the same problem and that's the way I found out all the information that I was able to collect.

Suggest obtaining the free down loadable manuals for the tractor. Quick links, above left on this site.
There are a few changes in parts for the 154. Bit of research on what you have will help when you need parts.
Identifying the exact year/serial number may be difficult, as Stan suggests,

I have an excuse. CRS.
