C60 motor rebuild
I just got a new Farmall 154 lowboy. I knew the engine was bad when I bought it. After tearing down the engine, I found a hole in the number two piston. Obviously the engine needs rebuilt. Does anyone know of a machine shop in the extended DC area that can help out on this project? I can do the tear down and build back up if needed, or have the shop to the whole thing. Either way is OK.

You might check with some auto parts stores, auto dealers, tractor dealers, etc. to see who they use and recommend.

Call around to your local NAPA / Eagle One stores. Often there is a regional machine shop run by NAPA. Here in Buffalo, they are the "go to" guys for rebuilding small engines. They will do anything from just clean/bore the block, to clean, bore, turn crank, install pistons and rods, etc. They are great guys and good to work with. I'd make some phone calls to see if there is a similar shop there near you. You may have to ask for the Regional shop, or NAPA Machine Shop.

Like the guys suggest, ask around, check the internet and phone book.
You might check small engine shops, since the C60 is basically a small engine.

I have an excuse. CRS.

I’d tear it down, mic the crank, measure the bores and pistons. Check the valve guides for looseness if there ok clean the valves and lap them in. If the bores and pistons measure ok get a ball hone and hone the cylinders. If there’s a ridge at tha top of the cylinder that removes with a ridge reamer. Clean the block get new bearings, gaskets, seals and your off to a good start.

The number two piston has a hole in it. That cylinder is scored up and will need to be bored, otherwise I would do exactly what you’re suggesting.

Get a Lisle 15000 gear driven hone with a triple gear reduction 1/2” drill motor with the coarse stones and open up the cylinders to any size you want. Or buy a block or short block from hamiltonbobscubs.
I do all my own work. Everytime I pay somebody the job is never done right.
I built a 400hp 350 engine for my one ton firewood truck. I had a local machine shop do the short block. I was up in vt when it started knocking. I used TRW forged pistons, he clearances it for cast pistons. Forged pistons .005” clearance, cast pistons .002” clearance. The piston cracked on the forging line. The skirt was wedged in there so she ran. I had 90lbs oil pressure and was scratching my head what the heck was wrong. I pulled the engine and removed seven pistons that looked great. The 8th piston rattled when it can out two pieces. I got so disgusted paying people for shabby workmanship.
