Hey y'all, I picked up a 154 a couple weeks ago. It was not running, so I got a good deal. I only bought it because a friend from church, Tim, has a couple IH's and was very confident that $500 was well worth it. I got it home and Tim got it to fire up. It only ran for a minute before flooding, but man did it sound good!!
After some research, it looks like it was one of the last 500 made in 74, (is that if any significance for value?)
It has an IH belly mower that measures 48", and the 3 point set up
I've got a carb rebuild and tune up in my near future, but the shifter is broken (I'm told the ball end probably broke) and the hydraulic for the 3 point it's seized.
Tim recommend this forum, and with some help I'm hoping to be cutting by spring

Welcome to the FORUM. A couple more posts and you can access/download manuals for your 154 from the Quick Links tab at the top left corner of this page. Owners manual will give you a lot of information that will be necessary to work on your 154. Many parts and maintenance procedures are common to all Cub tractors so that will help you as well. Is the carb IH or Zenith? There's some important information there about disassembly and repair that you will need to know. Good Luck and enjoy your 154. If you can attend a CUBFEST you will learn a lot in a short time from the guys who are in the know. Deep South Cubfest is coming up at Sneeds, FL in mid February. Hope to see you there.

Down load the operator's manual. You may need a couple more posts to do that.Bomar wrote:The hydraulic for the 3 point it's seized.
Depending on how the hydraulic system is plumbed, your 3-point may not be seized. Some tractors use a diverter valve and others a lock out bar to control the 3-point. See the owner's/operator's manual.
Welcome.

Re: Just joined
Thanks for the info so far
StaninlowerAL- the card head IH cast in the side, so thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure to order anIH kit.
Eugene- a diverter or bar repair sounds better they having to rebuild the cylinder. I'm new to hydraulic s so it will be a learning experience.
It looks like your apart of the ppl that run the site. So I need to do several posts to access those manuals. Is that in this thread or do I need to do whole other threads?

Bomar. Log in then click on Quick Links, top left of page. If you don't have enough posts to open Quick Links, post one more time.
First manual to down load is the Owner's Manual for Numbered Cub Lowboys. Be sure to read and understand the contained information.
Edit. Some carb kits are not very good. Before purchasing, use the search function, or post asking for recommendations.

Not really, just old and with a bad back. When back hurts, sit in office chair and visit this site. Back hurting.Bomar wrote:It looks like your apart of the ppl that run the site.

Re: Just joined
You can search for additional carb repair info but the most important thing to remember on the IH carb is when you take it apart, pull it straight, no twisting or angles. If not you risk breaking the idle tube jet which screws into the top and extends down into the lower half. Lots of posts on this.
