Tiller for 185
Ok. So I would really like to get a tiller for my 185. I do have the creeper gear and PTO. Any recommendations on what tiller would work best for it?

Re: Tiller for 185
You have to remember that the pto shaft is an oddball size AND the pto runs backwards from standard imps., so I would think you will be VERY limited as finding a direct fit unit.---You might cobble up something and it might work. thanks; sonny

Re: Tiller for 185
Sonny,
I have the adapter to fix the oddball size issue. That was figured out to run my PTO driven generator. I fabbed up some pulleys to increase RPMs and reverse the rotation. The generator was somewhat fun to make work.
But, a tiller is a different animal. Can they simply run off a different input rotation? Don't think it really matters whether the tiller is pushing or pulling the tractor while operating. I saw some tillers come in different rotations. But I can't tell if the input matters. Any advise is helpful. Really don't want to run a walk behind unit all weekend.

Re: Tiller for 185
The IH Model 15 works well with the 3-point hitch and the Creeper.
Without these options, use a self-powered tow behind tiller. (one with an engine that is towed, not 3-point hitched)

Re: Tiller for 185
Standard tillers MUST run the rotation that they were designed for.---If you were to try running them reverse rotation,----The tines would hit the ground on the back side and NOT on the cutting edge,---Which I might add would be a very dangerous situation cropping up!
If you already have the pto reversed to run standard direction, then you shouldn't have any problem with running a standard tiller.----Hope I have cleared it up!!!!
Also don't get much over 34" in tiller width!!!! These little mowers just don't have the weight to hold back a very wide one.----I run a small one ( 36" wide) on my 917-H garden tractor and in hard ground going deep, it will push the tractor a little.----My big unit is a 72" King-Kutter and I use it on the S-650-G , about the size of the A tractor, (25 hp) , and it works fine,---6" or so deep first pass and run in L-1.
Good luck, and check into the requirements of the different units!---I am sure you can match up a reasonable unit that will serve you well!!!! thanks; sonny

Sonny,
Ha! I ended up getting a 917H with a tiller. Works fantastic. Any chance you're located in Ohio? I need a little trouble shooting on it.
