Cub 184 steering box

Postby Dieselrider » Thu Sep 08, 2016 4:00 pm

One son must have hit something lately and never said anything to me but, from visual inspection, it looks like the steering box on the cub 184 is broken. I need to drop the deck and pull it apart but, doesn't look good. Are these available and what kind of cost am I looking at? Thanks. Bummer!

Used parts, Check with Hamilton Bob's, Forum Sponsor. CaseIH will know about new parts availability. Try MESSICK'S online parts source for info also. A post on THE VINE, classified forum might yield some available parts.

Parts manual indicates that the steering parts are the same for all numbered Cubs.

Parts should be available from Hamilton Bob, JP Tractor Salvage, or from others who part out Cubs. Guessing, it will be less expensive obtaining a complete, used steering gear assembly than purchasing individual parts.

The steering gear assembly is placed up, inside the tractor's frame. With mower deck installed, the steering gear is well protected from any direct hits. Any way, inspect the entire steering system and mower for additional damage.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Finally had a chance to pull the 184 out of the shed today and into the shop. I do not believe there is anything wrong with the steering gear box but the bracket that holds it in place is broken. Looks like it had come loose and vibration and stress must have done it in. Onc I had it in better light was able to see better what was actually moving around.

Supposed to rain Sunday so, that might be a good day to be in the shop. Replacement bracket is supposed to be here Monday.

Everything back together and running again. New support bracket came yesterday, and things went back together without too much frustration. Did mow a wee bit but, grass was too wet so, I'll look at that again today or tomorrow. Thanks for the support.
