Anyone know if there is another place for the serial number. I have a 154 and the data plate is missing .

None that I've heard. Casting codes will help establish the date/month/year built.

There are a few cosmetic things that you can look at to determine if it's an "early" or "later" 154. The early ones have the light blue decals, with vertical striped headlight decal, just like a Cub Cadet 124/124 as pictured:
These were only made in 1968 and 1969 and would have had the white vinyl seat like my Cub Cadet pictured.
From 1970 to 1974, the 154 Lo Boy tractors had this hood decal:
Otherwise, as mentioned above, you can look at the casting codes on the engine block and find the month and year of production that way.
Regardless of the year, all of the 154 tractors are the same mechanically, so other than "wanting" to know the year, there's no reason to "need" to know the year.
