Hello all, let me start by saying I am a newbie to the tractor world because I only just now moved into some acreage.
With that being said I picked up a 154 with a belly deck to take care of my lawn and woods. Well it ran great when I looked at it so I bought it, loaded it up on a trailer locked down the brakes and took it home. Got it off the trailer mowed about two acres with it and it ran good (some grinding while trying to find gears) until I got into some deeper grass and I could hear it bogging down. I took it easy on it for another 5 minutes and it died. I restarted it went to put it in gear and i could feel it go in but will not go!! Then come to find out I am an idiot and had the brake engaged the entire time!!!! I replaced the clutch brake bolt thinking maybe it was sticking and nothing. At times it will rock a little bit forward or backward but will not go and dies pretty quick. I did see some smoke coming from the clutch brake after trying to engaging the clutch for awhile.
Any help would be much appreciated. We are new home owners and things are just piling up!!

first welcome to the fourm.
without being there my best guess is the break band[S] are welded to the drums
try rocking the tractor back and forth by the back wheels [not the engine]
with the transmission in neutral and engine off
you may need help [or another tractor]to do this depending how bad they are stuck
also pick up a repair and parts manual[it will help you to understand the tractor functions]
we all have made mistakes with our tractors [good learning incident]

Thanks for the advice guys. I found the clutch brake retainer was broke and the brake buttons worn down. I've replaced both and can get the tractor moving but now the clutch whole assembly is shaking and making quite a noise plus smoking. Any advice there? Something still is not right.

I'm sorry to say but your clutch was probably already worn quite a bit, and the excessive work on it just completely wore it out. There is some adjustment to the clutch, and could be tightened up a bit, but there's not much. If it's smoking, and chattering, it's likely shot.

Yeah that's what I figured. Ill get it split and see what's going on I guess before I order the new assembly.

I was trying to look of over the manual and noticed a bushing in there. Could it be that?

Don't know which manual you are looking at but the 154 Parts Manual TC 131 might help: http://www.farmallcub.com/[ Sorry, direct links to manual section is not allowed. ]/downloa ... 201-72.pdf

Stop.... Check the springs in the pressure plate first. I've seen my 154 run on one spring. The other two had broken coils.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
