clutch brake plugs 1972 ih cub loboy 154

Postby kkirk » Tue Mar 08, 2016 10:54 am

Hello. Im trying to install new clutch brake plugs on my 154. the flywheel is in the rear on this model. Does flywheel have to come off? Have backed out 3/4 bots as far as will go against flywheel and clutch brake bracket wont come out. Thanks for any help......

I replaced the brake plugs on my 154 without having to remove the flywheel.

There is a shim behind the plug bracket. Try removing the shim, (spacer, clutch brake retainer), lift straight up. Then slide the bracket for the clutch brake towards the rear of the tractor.
I have an excuse. CRS.

kkirk,

With the shim out, you should be able to get the bolts out. Thats how I got mine off, of course mine came out in 2 parts... Grr. And I don't see any used ones on eBay or Hamiltons, only new ones. Not paying 100 for a new one.

Before I would pay $100-, I would measure (micrometer) the old shim. Rummage the metal scrap pile for metal of same thickness and make a new one.

Its not the shim that broke... its the cast backer piece on the clutch brake
