Doing an oil change is better than not doing an oil change, but when to do this is the question.
I don't use my 184 much during the winter months and it is stored indoors.
Should I change the oil and lube the chassis now or in the spring?
If I change it now, then I may have some condensation accumulate in the oilpan. Then I have milky oil for the first two mowings in the spring.
If I change it in the spring, then the condensation is largely drained out, but the contaminates in the oil have time to settle to the bottom of the pan and become sludge.
Any opinions on "when" is better?

Re: Oil change now or in spring?
I prefer spring. I unusually mow or whatever I am doing to get everything warmed up and the oil stirred up and then drain it. As to sludge accumulation, in the last few years I have rebuilt 2 of my cubs for the second time that I had owned for many years, and had rebuilt both of them when I first got them. I do run detergent oil in both, and there was no sign of sludge in the oil pans.

Re: Oil change now or in spring?
I would wait until mid spring. Reason, Central Missouri, early spring, upon occasion the interior of the my unheated, uninsulated, shop buildings and everything inside are covered with dew.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Yea, it really makes no difference. If you don't use the tractor over the winter, I'd be more concerned about rust in the cylinders, and would fog the engine when you shut it down the last time.
