154 Short Falls
I am looking at buying a 154 that looks in good shape. Can you let me know of any weak points to watch out for? I plan on plowing snow and doing a little grass cutting. Thanks

Test drive: Clutch and PTO are common faults.
If the mower deck and/or 3-points are installed, check the hydraulics. Note: hydraulics are one way and require implement weight to return cylinder(s) to closed position.
If creeper installed, check it.

Let's not forget these are from the late 60's to early 70's were mostly run with no maintenance. These are awesome for mowing.
If it has a selector valve with the 3PT hitch check for leak down.
The pto make sure it engages and disengaged easily.
Check the front axle pivot pin hole.
Check the frame for cracks at the bends.
Check the engine for broken mounting ears at the frame.
Shifter for loosened and popping out of gear first n reverse.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Well, I went and picked it up. It is a 1974 according to the serial number. I took it home and promptly broke it. One of the tie-rod ends came apart? I have a few things to clean up on it but it runs great and the hydraulics work good. It should be fun to work on.

Well the gas cap program is alive and well. I sent for a cap for my new 154 and I received it 10 days later? The last time I sent for one it took almost 3 months.
