Got it started today

Postby travlitt » Thu Jan 22, 2015 9:07 pm

I received the new carburetor kit on Wednesday, installed it yesterday.
Today was my big day. I got it started and it sounds pretty good.. good oil pressure, least the light goes out..No knocks..no blow-by, however it does have an oil leak at the rear of the engine..Either the pan is leaking or the rear main seal. I think it is the seal.
Still have to adjust the governor and the throttle linkage. The PTO works. Tomorrow I will see if it will move under its own power.

Congrats!!! Don't worry about the oil leak for now. REALLY common for these engines to leak at the crank shaft seals after sitting for a long time. Sometimes they will seal back up, sometimes they just drip. If it's just a small drip, don't worry about it for now. It will make a mess but won't really hurt anything if you keep her topped off with oil. Also, make sure to run a heavy, 30-wt non-detergent oil in it, and it may seal back up. If it has standard 10w-30 detergent oil in it, it may be so thin that it just leaks a little. I know it sounds like BS, but I've seen happen.

Most of my tractors have oil seeps. It's considerably less expensive to add a quart of oil ever so often than a tractor split and an over haul.
I have an excuse. CRS.

:Dito:

On the Kroil! I've used PB Blaster for years and bought my first can of Kroil last fall. It definitely seems to work a little bit better which can make a big difference on a tough bolt/nut.

Far as I know, the only way to buy it is direct from them. They have special offers so you can get a couple cans at a fair price. It's not the cheapest.

I was using Deep Creep by Seafoam trying to get my divert-er valve to free up and it wouldn't work even after a week of soaking it. With in minutes of spraying Kroil the bastard moved! Could be just a coincidence that it worked that good I dunno I'm sold on it. Have three cans sitting around the garage now.
