bearing for a 3160 mower on a 184 lo boy

Postby pri_i_oh » Fri Aug 15, 2014 10:06 am

I'm looking for the bearing that goes in the idler pulley on the back of the deck on the right side. The dealer wants 45.00 for a stinkin bearing and I'm more than sure it's available for probably 6.00 I just need to find the right place.

Thanks

If you still have the worn bearing, there should be a part number on it, possibly even the company name. With that information, you should be able to get the bearing you need from a bearing distributor (don't know of one in the Jefferson area) or go to your local NAPA and they should be able to help you out.

The bearing is completely disintegrated.

OUCH! Next approach is to get the IH part number and cross that to an existing bearing. You said that the dealer wanted $45 for the bearing. Was the dealer Lenox Equip. or someone else? Sometimes I get parts at Robisons in Thompson.

I also looked online and the part number you have should be the complete assembly -- pulley, bearing, and assorted washers and screws. Hey, I'm sleeping at the switch. :) Is the other idler and bearing still in tact? If so, the number should be on that bearing. Both idlers are the same. Check the other idler.

If it was mine, I would replace both bearings or have a spare on hand. If one went bad the other is probably not far behind.

Pretty sure that is a common 1 " shaft bearing, used on trailer axles, should be cheap at the parts store, drive the race out of the spindle housing, it should have a # stamped on it, race should be changed with bearing

Check out McMaster-Carr. Double shielded ball bearings in the 3/8" shaft size, they run from $7.60 to $8.69 depending on OD. One of these may be just what you need. (Tried hot linking the page and could not get it to work.)

Good luck.
