Hello all,
My first post as a new member. OK, going to change oil as well as air cleaner. Have new filter and ready to go except for oil. I saw that oil (from original spec) says SAE 30 for summer and 10W for winter. Probably the dumbest question you'll see but is 10W 30 good for general all year use? If so, is there any brand that has a better level of additive for solid tappets, cams, etc (I think it is ZDDP or something like it).
Anyway, just want to do it right and any experience you can share with a low-Boy newbie would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
VelcroRoyce,
1957 Low-Boy.

Re: 10W 30 Oil for Crankcase
Thanks Eugene,
I have also been told since I posted that Rotella 10W 30 (with high ZDDP, zinc) is a good way to go. I also found out that for gear lube, etc that a 75-90 (GL-4) WORKS WELL.

Which engine oil is a topic that everyone has an opinion.
Search function, top of page. Type in something to do with engine oil and you will get dozens of posts.
ZDDP, zinc has also been a topic of discussion. Same thing with gear lube.

Re: 10W 30 Oil for Crankcase
MY personal opinion is that if it has had detergent oil in it, the 10w30 should be just fine, the oils made now are much better than those made 40+ years ago. I would stay with the 30wt in the air cleaner though
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: 10W 30 Oil for Crankcase
I use the Mobil Delvac 15-40wt for the summertime in my int 154 I mow with.
My cub cadets get 30wt detergent I find at Wal-Mart. Summertime
My winter weight oils is 10/30wt.
The paper element air cleaner in the 154/185/184 stays dry. To have a pre cleaner a used nylon stocking works. But my air cleaner in my mowing 154 never seems to get dirty. I always check it.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
