184 need help on clutch adj
I put in new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing on 184 and when I get enough clearance between bearing and plate fingers the shaft will not stop spinning and gears grind when you first shift, in order to get the shaft to stop the throw out bearing is against the pressure plate fingers all the time.

If its anything like my 154 you should have a break mechinisem between the preasure plate flywheel and transmisinn case. there are two little brake buttons that apply preasure to the back of the preasure plate to stop the flywheel when the clutch is applied. You should have an adjustment bolt that goes from a bracket infront of your clutch asemble to the break asemblely behind the preasureplate flywheel.

Bushing, clutch pilot or bearing, clutch pilot. Replaced and or lubricated? Guessing pilot bushing.

On the 184, it is all about leverage to produce the length of stroke needed to properly engage and disengage the clutch.
Take a look at the fork. It wears on the inside where the fork contacts the throwout bearing carrier. Mine needed to be welded up and ground back to shape. I also found that my throwout bearing carrier was worn where the fork contacted. I also had to drill and install a larger bolt for a pivot point in the fork to tighten up the pivot point.
A lot of the holes and pins along the connections between the clutch pedal and the throwout bearing get worn oblong. Repairing this wear really helped me get just enough travel to engage and disengage the clutch properly.
I also found that wear on the pressure plate fingers contributed to the issue.
If all of this effort fails, then drill a new hole in the fork about 1/2" closer to the pivot point so that the throw of the fork is improved.

Prior to installation of a new pilot bushing I soak in light weight machine oil. After bushing installation I lub the bushing with gun grease prior to clutch assembly.bvsr1 wrote:What do you lube the pilot bushing with and the shaft? Thanks again.

My clutch, p. plate, throwout bearing and fork are all brand new parts I got from Hamilton Bobs, the only thing I didn't replace is the pilot bushing.

Now that I have had a chance to look at the parts manual I see that the clutch set ups are totaly different between the 154 and 184. Sounds like Eugene and Outdoors4evr have it covered.

The 184 has a pilot bearing that is pressed into the flywheel, not a pilot bushing.
