3260 vs 3160 mower

Postby Andrew Z » Tue Mar 11, 2014 6:32 pm

I know I know one more mower question from me...

I have been able to locate a 3160 mower and 3260 mower. What a the differences between the two? The only one I can is the the 3260 is built like a tank compared to the 3160. But maybe I'm mistaken?

Thanks

Andrew

Don't know the differences between the two decks.

I have a 3260 which is/was well rusted. The deck metal is thick enough to take a welded in metal patch.

The outer two blades for the 3260 are no longer available. I purchased two additional center blades and cut 1/2" off each end to cut them to original size.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The seller is HamiltonBob, one of the advertisers on this site. Those are blades for the 3260.

Edit: Should add that it has been 2 years since I tried to purchase blades for my 3260. Mower blades are available at auto parts stores, use the IH part number.

The HamiltonBob price appears to be a bit less than what I paid for mower blades at the auto parts store.

I started out with a 3160 and found a 3260, (I liked the lookes of the 3260 better). WOW ! ! ! Big difference going to the 3260. It does SOoooo . . . much better as a finnish mower that I would never go back. Now granted, the 3160 needed a lot of repair, but I myself would only rate it as a decent rough cut.
The 3260 is much harder to get on/off but well worth the trouble.

3160 has 3 belts. 1 that goes to the center off the pto (mule belt) and 2 more that run off the center deck pulley and go to the outside blades.
I believe the 3160 is an I.H. made deck. (mines stamped that way anyway).
I prefer the 3160 as it has 3 belts ( easy to swap out) and each belts tension is adjustable independent of the others ( slots for the spindles).
It's also built out of very heavy steel and doesn't clog easy. Bush hogs nice with the deck up too! :)
Hope that helps.

You may also want to consider looking for a 3160A mower deck as well.
This is a newer designed 3160 deck that has one belt on the deck and one belt that runs from the mule drive to the deck.
Also built like a tank. The Oregon blades are awesome! All three blades are the same part number (same length).
