Re: 154 3pt mower?
Maybe. Most of the RM59 mowers are setup for a standard 540 RPM pto and clockwise rotation. The PTO on a Cub (or Lo Boy) is counterclockwise, at engine RPM or about 1900 RPMs. So, NO, a regular RM59 will not work on a Lo-boy.
They did make Woods 59 mowers for use on the 3-point hitch for the Lo-boys, but they're few and far between. You can order the correct one from Woods. They're about $2000 new.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
What you need is a RM59LB-1 mower.

The seller says it has opposite turning PTO here is a picture of the shaft.

thanks

Looks like that is what you need. The tag (if present) should have the full model # on it.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
awesome thanks,
P.S. Im assuming this mower will give the same quality of job as the mid mount would and or are there any disadvantages to running one of these vs the mid mount?
thanks

Re: 154 3pt mower?
I don't have the rear mount mower, so I can't comment on experience.... But with that said, if you have a nice flat yard, it should perform the same as a mid mount. One disadvantage I think would be if your yard is hilly it may want to scalp or leave uncut grass on hills and valleys as you go up and over them more so than a mid mount mower. The nice advantage would be the ability to back up to put the mower under hedges that you couldn't get to with a belly mount mower. Not to mention being able to disconnect the mower very quickly with the 3-point vs having to pull one out from underneath the tractor would surely give it an advantage when sharpening blades or switching implements to use the tractor for other tasks.
Just my opinion though, your milage may vary...

Re: 154 3pt mower?
Yes, the cut should be the same as a mid mount. The mid mount is easier to maneuver around trees, and mowing close to things since you can look down and see the cutting edge. Since it is a rear-mount mower, it's hard to get close to things, and you have to watch the "swing" of the mower. Because it's out behind the tractor, it travels a lot farther when you turn the tractor, kind of like a pendulum effect. That should be the only difference in the mowers..
Having said this, the rear-mount does have a lot of benefits, being easier to mount/dismount, and MUCH easier to take off and switch out to separate implements. If you have a lot of acreage to mow, with little "trimming" where you are close to things, I think the rear-mount mower would be the way to go. If you are mowing a "lawn" where you're trimming around a lot of things, I think the rear-mount would be a pain in the arse to get used to, but would probably do a fine job.

It would also provide great mechanical power steering for your tractor!
Sure would make changing implements easier! I really hate wrestling the mower deck from under the tractor.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
Actually, the rear-mount mowers should have 4 gauge wheels on them, which would make them cut better than the belly mowers without scalping. If it doesn't, I would definitely add the gauge wheels, as they will definitel ymake it cut more evenly. Then the mower deck can actually ride on the ground and you can just set the 3-point all the way down, letting the mower float.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
I have one on va case and they cut terrible due to the fact that you have the WHOLE tractor running the grass down instead of just the front tires!---a total out front mount would be the cats whiskers for the mount! thanks; sonny

Re: 154 3pt mower?
I mow a lot with a rear mount flail mower and as was said, on a dip or hill you can get a 'holiday'. You surely need the mower to float (run on the wheels), otherwise it can jam up on a dip or create holidays going over a down slope.
It's nice to be able to dump the mower and install another implement, a big advantage over a belly mount mower.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
thanks guys for the replies, I like the fact about being able to drop the mower quick. However I do see the drawback= mower swing and running over the grass... does $650 seem like a fair price for a 3pt mower? Its the only mower I can find for sale :/
thanks

Re: 154 3pt mower?
That's not a bad price if it's complete and in good shape. A new Woods RM59 is about $2000. $500 to $600 is not a bad price for a good used one.

Re: 154 3pt mower?
I was given a price of $2600 for a new mid mount one did not get a price on the 3pt... I was hoping that the mid mount would have been cheaper then the 3pt model but maybe not the case
