picked up a 154 yesterday
Picked up a 74 154 yesterday with a mower. price was right. Has a bad clutch. All that was left was a little bit of the friction disc material and the flat metal disc that it was rivited to. Has a bad spring on one of the psi plate fingers. Starts right up and runs good. No 3 point but I will be adding one as soon as i can. Already got the clutch parts on order from hamiltobobs. Sure is nice not having to split it like the regular cub.

Re: picked up a 154 yesterday
Congratulations on the purchase.
My opinion and I own a 154, fantastic mower tractor. My 154 has a 3-point which I use as a trailer hitch because the tractor does not have the solid hitch.
Before you purchase parts for the 3-point, see if you can find some implements for the tractor.

I have an excuse. CRS.

I owned a 154 for 10+ years and it was an excellent mower, and you're right about not having to split for the clutch. Having hands the size of a 2 year old working in that tunnel is a big plus though!

Recieved my clutch parts after lunch today and was able to install the psi plate springs and new clutch disk before dark.
Twotone thats sure is a nice looking Lo Boy. Mine doesnt look that good yet. It has to work first before it earns its colors.

Re: picked up a 154 yesterday
Pete, I worked mine hard for 10 years mowing ditches with it. Between the oil leaks and really bad blow by, it was filthy. I figured it deserved a restoration. I traded it for the F Cub in my avatar. I wanted to keep the 154 because I really liked that tractor. I couldn't swing buying the F Cub out right, but I think I made a good trade. I put a clutch in my 154 and it was nice not having to split the tractor, and wasn't too hard of a job, but my big fat hands didn't work well in that tunnel.

Re: picked up a 154 yesterday
Went out this morning and adjusted the throw out bearing and the two stop bumps on the back side of the preasure plate. Finaly got it off the back of the truck and drove it around to the work shop. I noticed a little bit of smoke from under the seat. and saw iut was coming from the pto clutch. I have alot of grease flung all around like sombody over greased the bearing. the pto wants to grab alittle when disingaged. should i let it go or dissasenble and clean everything so there is no grease on the disks?

Before you reinstall, check the mesh of the splines between the shaft and the new clutch disc. Chances are the shaft splines will be worn as much as the disc hub in the pic.
