Headlight options ?

Postby FrankenCub » Thu Nov 28, 2013 10:34 pm

Have any of you guys tried anything other than the standard GE4411 bulb for headlights ? My 154 is needing new bulbs but after replacing so many of them on my Cub Cadets, they don't seem to have a very long life. I'm guessing they don't take to well to vibration as they are supposed to. I've thought about some of the LED replacements I've seen but they aren't very cost effective. I'm looking at some Halogen/Xenon bulbs...

They have a narrower beam than the other bulbs but should be brighter, I like to plow snow at night when I can see headlights coming when I'm at the bottom of my driveway.
I've even thought about cutting a circular hole in the backs of a couple that are burned out to insert the newer style automotive bulbs in them if I can't find a reliable replacement.
Any thoughts ?

I buy a lot of lamps from 1000 bulbs for work, etc. - goo company. If these would work and I don't see why they wouldn't, I think the 50 watt would maybe be a better choice. More lumens for virtually the same $$ and not knowing the amp output, surely they wouldn't tax the generator any. Greg

I think I will try them, and go with the 50w. Worst that can happen is they are no better than the standard incandescent bulbs we use now. If I can get more than a year's life from them I'll be happy.

Looks like they make a flood light bulb as well - 50 watt = approx. 4.2 amps per bulb on a 12 volt system.

The squeaky wheel may get the grease but it's usually the first to be replaced!
