Farmall Cub

I have two 184 loboy's, one with a 3160 mower and one with a FEL.

The one with the FEL takes a considerable amount of effort to steer, even empty, at low speeds.

Has anyone adapted a small power steering unit to any of these numbered loboys?
Or has any one adapted a thrust bearing between the axle end and the bottom spindle boss, as in a kingpin equipped car (early Ford)? Obviously, machine work required.
Larger diameter steering wheel?
Gear box change?
Eat more spinach?

Don't steer with unless the tractor is moving. The linkage is thin and will bend as I found out. BigBill was working on power steering for a numbered series and he may jump in. McMaster Carr has small roller thrust bearings that I put on a 154 but did not notice any difference.

Loaders on these little lawn mowers is really not good for them,---they are not really designed for that kind of use, in my opinion! thanks; sonny

I respectfully disagree with Sonny on this topic. A loader used within the tractor specifications is perfectly acceptable.
Practical application of this means you do have to limit what is safely lifted by the loader.

You may benefit from thinner tires (like tri-ribs). When using my 184 with the #50 snowthrower lifted, I found it very beneficial to use skinny tires.

I would also be interested in a power steering mod for the numbered series.

Somebody did one on a regular cub several years ago. Looked and worked great. Do a search.

On the back burner for now, the other one (with the mower) just broke the throttle cable today. Got that fixed and the clutch release bearing went out! AAARRGGHH! It's never-ending with two of these. And the grass waits for no man.
