Farmall Cub

My 154 currently has the high flotation tires on it but the fronts are in dire need of replacing, tube is sticking out of one as of this week. I've seen mention of using trailer tires, but nothing of the trailer rims. Will the 5 lug rims bolt up ? At $54 each for 4.80x12 on rims doesn't seem bad. How much taller are the trailer tires ? I can't find any diameter specs on them.
I am looking for a loader I can modify to fit and will be using it for snow removal so I think I'd be best off with the narrow tires.

Actually, if you're wanting to use a front loader, I'd stick with the wide tires, to disperse some of the weight in the front end. Either one will be difficult to turn, but the narrow tires will really dig in with all that weight on the front. Can't help you out on your tire size questions though.

Boat trailer tires from WM fit Fcub rims just fine. Also some 5 hole tires and rims from the junkyard will work. I have seen Temp spares used too.

I figured the wider tires will have a bigger footprint and with more ground contact will take more effort to turn. I can see the narrow tire digging in more, but these wide tires push like crazy as it is. They'll never steer in the snow lol.
I've even noticed a huge difference with my Cub Cadets, wides didn't want to steer. I put tri-ribs on them all. The soil here is pretty firm, lovely NY hardpan, until we have a few days of rain.

Thanks, I thought about running over to the scrap yard my friend owns, he get's a lot of tracrtors in there. Still may but the price for new tires w/rims at TC seem fair for new.

Good to know they bolt up. Do you have the 16's or 24's on the rear ? Wondering if they will make the front any taller or not. A little I don't mind but don't want to go too far.

Also there is a thread here somewhere about putting power steering on a cub.

I've seen parts of it, thanks. Have also considdered trying the power steering from a Cub Cadet which I think would be cheaper, if I can find a junk Cadet with it.
Going to look at a couple loaders this week, for cheap One is really nice but too big, from a 66 series IH but the guy also has an Allied from a Ford 2000 and a Freeman trip bucket of unknown fit. From the pics the Freeman looks smaller so with a sawsall and welder one of the two could fit my 154.

I just put a new set of tires on the 154 that I recently bought. They were 20x8.00x10.....BKT LG306 6 ply. Most tires you see for sale in the correct size are 4 ply or 2 ply. I got them online at SimpleTire. Check them out !!!!!!

I ended up getting the trailer tires from Tractor Supply, at $123 for 6 ply on rims I couldn't touch the 20x8x10's for even close to that. What a difference in the steering !

I picked up some 650-10 3rib tires and mounted them on the turf front rims for my fel. I figure the wider 3 rib tires will support the load and steer better.
