Hello,
I recently bought a 1970's 154 Cub Lo-Boy with a belly mower. The mower is a Woods 59 and it is in very good condition. I took the mower off the tractor because I am not going to be using it. I would like to sell it, but I don't have any idea what to ask for it. Anybody know what one of these mower unit is worth?????? Thanks !!!

New, that mower is about $1200 to $1500. I've seen good used ones with all the PTO covers, shrouds, belts, wheels, etc. sell anywhere from $450 to $750.

I don't mean to be a downer but it depends entirely on your area. On my local craigslist I've seen them from 150-750. That's what they're listed for, at least, not necessarily what they're selling for. They're solid steel and it's good steel, so barring any catastrophic damage or excessive rust all the way through, even ones in poor condition can be sanded down and repainted to look like new for relatively little money. Keep in mind, this is not a yuppie craftsman for mowing in a quarter acre lawn in a development, most people that buy or own them work with their hands, and would be able to restore a deck without much trouble, which probably narrows the gap in selling price between a beat up deck and a freshly painted deck.

Rather than selling, I would store the deck and parts in the shop in an out of the way place. Probably, some time in the future you will want a mower for the 154. The 154 is a great mower tractor. If you want to sell the 154, worth more money with a mower.

I know that's not the answer to your question, just my opinion.

Hey Eugene and everyone else who replied,
Thanks for all your comments........I guess I could just pick a price and see how it goes. I really don't need to use the 154 as a mower because I hardly have any grass.....I have 18.5 acres, but hardly any grass. I live in the mountain and the only grass that I have is on top of the septic system mound.....and that couldn't be mowed with any riding mower anyway. I do think the idea of keeping the mower deck and then having it to sell with the 154 if I ever sell it is a good idea, but I hardly ever sell any of my stuff after I buy it. Plus, I really don't want to store it anywhere. So I guess I'll just list it on Craig's List and see what happens !!!! Thanks.

I gave $35. For one of mine. Too many of them around to have much real value! I use one on 185 6 speed and it is good unit,---needs lots more power but still an awesom mower!--- I even bush hog with mine(not recommended)! Thanks;sonny

Sonny, based on all of the responses you've given lately, I've decided to move out to your part of the country where you can buy stuff BELOW scrap prices!!! Really, be honest with folks. The deck shell ALONE for a Woods 59 mower deck is worth a couple hundred $$ without spindles, deck hangers, belts, pulleys, etc. The stupid PTO pulley for a Woods mower is going for $50 to $100 right now anywhere you look. The scrap steel for the mower deck is worth $50, easily. If you've got a complete Woods 59, in decent shape, that you could mow grass with, it's easily worth $400 to $500.

The prices I post are what I pay for the stuff!---I dont do the inflated stuff or the YUPPY pricing route!---I go in as me and act like a decent guy!---goes a long way with folks that I buy from!
The scrap prices they offer me is NOT what you post!---I load stuff up that I dont want and go to landfill with it!---(costs $60. per ton to dump!) thanks; sonny

Curious. You are paying $60- a ton to haul scrap metal to the dump? Around here, central Missouri, folks will pick up scrap metal and haul it off. Also, local dealer is offering $190- a ton delivered to his place of business.

Neighbor who lives down the street picks up and sells scrap metal. Small pieces of scrap metal, I just throw in the back of his pickup when I drive by. Larger amounts I want to get rid of and not worth the time or the expense to haul to the scrap yard, he will pick up - free.
