Farmall Cub

There is a 184 forsale near me for 2300 running used for mowing . I have several Cubs but never messed with no. series. Any thought on this?

Better be in good shape and have a 60" mower deck in very good condition for the price asked.
The tractor may have some options installed that you should check on. The major options are a 3-point hitch and a creeper. These options are worth about $600-$800 each. These options are necessary for other functions such as tilling or snowthrowing.

There are a couple of small options that were available for the tractor as well. Combination Rear Worklight (red/white) and wheel spacers that were used with tire chains. These can add a little to the value.

Ask about other implements available. A Model 15 tiller or a Model 50 Snowthrower was built for the tractor. McKee also built a snowthrower for the numbered series. A front mounted snowplow is available as well.

184's seem to be a lot less common, however I can't imagine it being worth an extra $1000 over a well running 154. I've only ever seen one tiller for sale for a cub and it was $800.

If you just want a strong 60" mower, I'd opt for a 154 for a whole lot less. I've mowed 2ft tall brush with my finishing deck and it just tears right through it. Lots of mess afterwards, but I don't think I've ever bogged the engine.

Thanks, I was just curious was not realy looking for another Cub but thought this might be rare as I have only seen one other one. I passed but i just saw another for 4000 with 3 point, now I know better.

I bought my 184 for $2500 locally (drove it home). It had a 3-point hitch, a creeper, and a combination rear light. It also came with the 3160A mower deck and all were repainted about 5 years ago.
It did need some work shortly after purchasing. (Brakes, Clutch, Throwout Bearing, U-Joint, Driveshaft, PTO Belts).
Later on I purchased a used Model 15 Tiller for $800 and a Model 50 Snowthrower for $700.
Fixed up and Used the snowthrower for a couple of years and sold it for $800.

I have refreshed the engine with new Main and Rod bearings, new pistons & rings. (had the crank turned and cylinders bored as well)
Maybe I overpaid for the tractor, but after all this work on it, there is no way I'd sell it for less than the $2500 + $800.

Two rusty 184 tractors (no options) with 60" mower decks have been sold this spring around here for $2500 each.
This one has been advertised on Craigslist for 2500 and looks like he's dropping the price to 2000. As you can see it is in decent condition, but no options.

$2300 is not a bad price for a good running 184 with a mower deck, if it's all complete and in decent shape. The last one I had I sold for $2500, just as you described. It was in excellent condition, good tires, good clean, original paint, and was turnkey, ready to mow with.

Went from 4000 to 3000 now 2500 firm.
