Starter / generator quirks to look for....

I been wondering why my number 3 int154 cub loboy was taking so long to fully charge the battery after sitting for a while. It would fully charge after running it for a week everyday. The amp needle would finally go a tad off center in the middle on the charge side. I found out it has a cub cadet starter / generator pulley on it so it doesn't turn as fast as the smaller diameter 154 s/g pulley does. Its just one more thing to look for if we have charging problems. It also takes a higher rpm to get it spinning fast enough to charge too. It should charge at an idle but with the larger diameter pulley it doesn't. It still starts up ok with the larger diameter pulley. I always get torpedoed by the PO fast fixes. BB

Had to check mine and all are good with the smaller pulley. I did notice a lot of black stuff on the side of one of the 154s. The belt was rubbing on the radiator hose and wore a goodsize grove in the hose. The belt appears to be too long.
