Another 3160 Mower question, idle pulley bearingHas anyone had any luck purchasing a replacement bearing for the idle adjustment pulleys on the back of the mower frame? Trying to rehab this old mower deck and seems like all the bearings are shot. The part number from Rudi's manual say's 543126R91. I would like to go to napa to pick up a new bearing and was wondering if anyone had the part number. The bearing itself says NICE 7842-7 on it.

Re: Another 3160 Mower question, idle pulley bearingWhen i got my 185, the PO had put one of those cheapy Tractor Supply pulleys on it. The bearing was bad and being the cheap-geezer that I am, I drilled the rivets out and popped in a new bearing for $3.00, (make note to self, don't use aluminum rivets to rivet it back together). The other idler is the original cast one and is still good. Anyway . . . one of those is a doable option. You just have to fashion some spacers to get away from the bracket.
Re: Another 3160 Mower question, idle pulley bearingA half decent bearing shop should be able to get you new ones by crossing the number on the bearing or by measuring a sample that you bring to them. I learned that the old IH part numbers don't usually cross reference.
Good luck! Karl
Re: Another 3160 Mower question, idle pulley bearingHi all
Got the job done!! Went to a bearing shop and the only way to get the bearing is from NICE itself and they are available. $33.00. Ouch. So i checked out TSC and they have the bearing that matches for $6.00 but it doesn't have the spacer on it to offset the pulley away from the bracket. So i was thinking why not use bushings to make it work. Takes two different bushing to get it done for around $10 bucks. So i start thinking what the heck lets go to IH and for giggles see if they can get it first and save a bunch of aggravation. So sure enough my IH shop had it in stock and $20 bucks later I am ready to put it back together. So if anyone runs into this again just head to IH or I also saw them available on Parts tree dot com for $23.00 Steve
