Re: rpm /pto gaugeRicky, do you use it and like how it works?
Bob, I just did a ebay search, and found 4 or 5 vintage Stewart Warner 757w model tachs . They do get $$ I see. Thanks,Jim
Re: rpm /pto gaugeJim:
I have a 727W. Got it for $19.00 on At the moment the three 727Ws are a bit pricey .. sheeshhhh now that is an understatement .. $100.00 is a bit much. There are always a bunch of them on though. Keep watching they will pop up. There are a couple other types as well but the 727W is probably the neatest.Confusion breeds Discussion which breeds Knowledge which breeds Confidence which breeds Friendship

Re: rpm /pto gaugeThanks Rudi and Bob. I may consider that harbor freight tach, while keeping my eye open on ebay for a Stewart Warner 757 tach. The Harbor freight price is good, and looks like good reviews . Thanks , Jim
Re: rpm /pto gaugeAlong with the Stewart Warner tach, A C also made a hand held mechanical tach. I have one of those and it works quite well. it sounds like the price of the S W has gotten a bit out of line, I used to find them at swap meets & such for $25 -$30 routinely.
Re: rpm /pto gauge

Re: rpm /pto gaugeYep, it's an AC. Works very well. I used it to check the engine RPM after rebuilding my '53.

Re: rpm /pto gaugeRicky , that is very cool ! I placed a bid on ebay, and that lasted all of 15 min, till I was out bid.....looks like these little hand held contact tachometers bring big $$. I received feed back from a Guy that sold one for 175.00 2 weeks ago . Hang onto that Gem ! thanks,Jim
Would the A-C Stand for Allis chalmers ?
Re: rpm /pto gaugeNo! A C Delco. I lucked out on mine, I bought a box of Coleman lanterns from a guy and it was in the bottom of the box, still in the original tube. I'm sure it meant nothing to him.
Re: rpm /pto gaugeGary, that's what you call a sweet find.
Re: rpm /pto gaugeJim:
These look interesting. So interesting that I think I would like to have one.... These are completed auctions and they all averaged at less than $28.00Cdn each. Very fair price indeed. VTG AC Hand Held Tachometer in Box # 1536486 Great Cond Sold for: US $28.75 AC SPARK PLUG VINTAGE TYPE 1 HAND HELD TACHOMETER Unfortunately there are no AC units available in auctions at the moment. In a few days we may see some more. Just search for AC Hand Held Tachometers. There are no Stewart Warner's available either at the moment.Confusion breeds Discussion which breeds Knowledge which breeds Confidence which breeds Friendship

Re: rpm /pto gaugeRudi, have to agree The AC would be a nice one o have. I currently do not have a bid in on ebay, the stewart warner auction is up to 65.00 with 1 day to go. Looks like the last ones went for 100.00 or better. Jim
