154 shifting gears

Postby JGtools » Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:47 am

I have a situation with this 154, when you first start and use the tractor it shifts good into all gears, pto works fine, while mowing. after the tractor runs for a half hour or so, you can no longer shift gears. You can shut tractor off, and start in gear to keep going, but will not shift while engine is running. The tractor had a bad rear engine crank seal leak, and im in the process of engine rebuild, could oil be getting on the clutch, causing this issue with shifting? I have engine out, and have not had the time to start looking into the shifting problem.looking for some possible things to look for ,while engine is out. Thanks,Jim

i did a search, and have found some similar situations with other 154's. Sounds like the best thing to do is, once i have engine back in , do the adjustment necessary for clutch adjustment, and see what happens. Jim

I think you're on top of it, Jim. I'm guessing you just need to adjust the flywheel brake.

Gary, The 154 sure is a different beast compared to the farmall cubs. Jim
