154 Front Hitch

Postby DanBuckman » Fri Dec 18, 2009 4:44 pm

The nose piece on my cub is trashed, big hole in the top and the bottom was missing.
Started repairing it but decided I'd rather make a hitch today.
Welded two tabs in the ends (inside) of the cub frame to bolt it to, so it comes off and isn't in the way of anything unless
I wanted to put a new ,disposable ,designed to break so we can sell you another, nose piece on that extends past the frame.
2 1/2 box receives the standard 2" hitches used on pickups.
May doll it up later with a piece of 3/8 x 1" that would border the sides and extend above 6 or 8".
or side pieces to blend in with the frame or a whole new nose.

Front hitch is nice for pushing in wagons or even trailers in a tight spot, or if you have a stiff neck.

First picture the hitch is in the foreground with a piece of 2" box that's in the vice holding it up for painting.
Second it's on the tractor,

Thats a great idea. I just boxed the front of my project int154 with a 1/4" plate. I also put in the missing welds around the inside of the vertical plate over the front axle too. Then i doubled walled the front section of the frame with channel for the subframe for the FEL. I notice before by hand i could twist the front section of the frame by hand and now that its all reinforced its a lot stiffer the way it should be for the FEL/Backhoe.

But i really like your front hitch idea i guess i have to do that too on one of my three 154's.

Plus the drawbars are way too heavy for me to lift, i'm getting old now and feeling it everytime i watch my sons do my work.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Sometimes I feel that way and other times it's like a huge boat anchor (when I'm thinking of buying a farm somewhere and hiding).

Right now thou I'm having fun and given just a smidgen of a chance could bore you to death talking about my toys.

Ok just one: my best lathe,, American Zip shift, Two speed combo tail stock with 12" of quill travel, digital readout taper attachment.
Weighs 8,000 lb and with 15 horsies on the spindle it isn't fussy about how good your inserts are.
It's almost like cheating.
