Have been working on subassemblies all winter. Weather finally got warm enough to paint last weekend and I went to town. Paint is IH ironguard Federal Yellow and 935 white. I really like Dupont centari better but the IH paint is a lot cheaper and seems to work pretty well. I use a hardener and centari reducer. 8 paint / 1 hardener/ 2 reducer
There is not many parts that have not been at least regasketed and new seals. Going to have new tires all around. Engine block just came back from the machine shop, valve job and .020 overbore. I have done 4 Fcubs previosly and find that the 154 is a lot more work and money. I have at least $500 in the IPTO alone. But I'm doing this one right as it will have a Woods 59 under it and plan on mowing with it for the rest of my mowing days. I also bought from dual brakes from hamiltonbob (among many other parts) and installed.

Re: 154 project started
Great pics!!!!!! It looks like its starting to move along too. I told my son who is working with me (he's doing the work/i'm the motivational support) its like building a model when we were kids only bigger. We have mine down to the engine and drivetrain now, the frame is just about stripped of everything else. My new clutch disc and pressure plate just arrived and we cleaned the frame and tranny area. I opened up the tranny cover to check it and found the 1st & rev fork a little loose so we tightened it. I also told the kid to get ready to restore the other two 154's and the fcub too. He's going to learn all the mechanics and do the wiring too. I wish i did this when they were younger but i guess its never too late to pass the torch.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

That is a beautiful work of art. It is amazing how much easier it is to work on and repaint these tractors once they are fully disassembled. I can't wait to see more pics of the progress and the final product. I'm sure it is going to be one amazing tractor.
Good job!
Bill

Re: 154 project started Ended!
Finally Done. I have so much time and money in this already I have decided to call it finished even though the hood still nedds to be painted and new decals needed. Time for it to start earning it's keep.
First time for new engine to run.
Back in the shop for some tinkering.
Painted the grille shell and installed.
All together now.
Got a good deck on it now using parts from 3 of them.
And now its back in the shop where it all started. I have been mowing 4 acres for 3 years with my '55 in first gear. Just took the 154 for it's first mowing test. WOW what a difference in power! Mowed so fast in second gear I almost couldn't steer fast enough around obstacles. Going to have to put a suicide knob on the steering wheel.

Wow, very, very nice tractor. Amazing what cleaning and careful paint will do to a tractor. I know you must be proud!!

Re: 154 project started
Man Oh Man does that look great. I just got a 154 last week, you sure do make it look good.
Can't wait to do some work towards mine.
Thanks for the pictures and the inspiration.
You would get a laugh at my newness to 154's. After buying but before picking up my new purchase I kept looking for the starter, (where the heck is the darn starter), I guessed that it was a starter/generator combo but had to come home and check the manual to make sure.
Enjoy your work,
Thackery

Re: 154 project started
I have said before there is a big difference in power between my 52 fcub and my int154. I have heard others say the same thing about the newer square nose fcub having more power too over the older fcubs. It having more horsepower sure makes a difference.
Great job, it looks awesome!!!!!

Re: 154 project started
Thanks guys. I have a little more time mowing on it now. I have found the machine is capable of mowing in second gear but I'm not. I have a lot of trees and obstructions in the 4 acres I mow and I just can't steer fast enough around them! I'm going to still use the '55 to mow the hardest section, most trees, roots and rocks. I'll raise and set the mower deck higher on that one and use the 154 for the nicer section.

Re: 154 project started
Impressive to say the least. Did you keep track of the number of hours it took ? The colors look just great. Hope it lasts forever and the paint keeps it shine. jr
