185 with fel

Postby brfarmall » Fri Oct 31, 2008 5:44 am

hi all i just found a 185 with a front loader, and the big turf tires with chains.the owner said it ran when he parked it last fall but he could'nt get it started this year he says its wort 1200.00 to him if it was running ,i think it will run with just a little work , two questions 1 is the clutch on a 185 in the same place as the 154 2 what would something not running be worth? loader and cylinders good no rust on cylinders tires good tread no weather checking ,single brake peddle no deck,3pt or creaper gear the tractor has been sitting outside,i did notice that under the oil cap its yellow, the rest is red no yellow anywhere else, i think i can pick it up for $600-$700

If you can pick it up for that price it is worth it. It would part out for more than that and the loader seems to be a desireable impliment.
The clutch is in the same place as the 154. They did not move it until the 184.

If you can get it for $600-700, my opinion is that it is a good deal. The clutches on the 185-154 are not that bad, will work fine if you have good parts and adjusted right. A little harder to change things out is all.

Sounds like a deal to me for sure.

My only problem so far with the clutch on my int154 cub loboy is it was out of sync between the two adjustments(clutch release brg / flywheel brake). Once i adjusted it right it works awesome. You just need to figure out what the problem is and adjust that first.

Since my clutch was releasing ok i figured to adjust the flywheel brake pucks just a tad till the flywheel stopping spinning so the tranny can be shifted with no grinding. Its going on 3 years now and still working fine. Now how do you know what to adjust? You need .090" space between the throwout brg and the pressure plate fingers and .010" space between the pucks and flywheel when the pedal is fully up.

These seem to be great machines too if there properly maintaned and adjusted correctly.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

It would part out pretty well but I bet you can make it run. Sounds like "buying for a song and singing it yourself"

There's a 185 that I saw recently with a mower deck, an International loader & a 3-Point hitch on it that RAN for $2500.00 So if you can get MOST of that for 1/2 the price I'd say...GO FOR IT. I believe that the 185's are better machines than the earlier 154's IMHO..."Country"

I wouldn't pay more than $800 for it so start out low and make your last offer $800 and show him 8 new 100 dollar bills as your final offer. Do not look to exceited while looking at it. And don't jump on it too soon and look it over and point out the bad looking questionable things even if there not make it sound like its bad.

I paid only $800 for my int154 running with the 3260 mower deck. After seeing the cubs going for $2,500 to over $3,000 i couldn't get this one on the trailer fast enough and get out of there. Plus your getting the FEL with it thats a real deal for sure.

Is this thing local ? you buy it for $800 and I'll give you $1000 sight unseen .... the loaders go for big money alone .... you can sell 3-points for $750 and up alone .... :{_}:

well it only took 7 months but i got the 185 home, now to get it going, the cross member for the throwout bearing bolts was loose ,got them tightened up,need to get battery cable ends and gas today hope to get it running, there is spark at the points and rolls over good ,with pto engauged the loader will start to lift but didnt crank it for very long. times must have been tough for the p.o so i could'nt pass it up.i'm pretty shure that it is a ih 1050 loader driven by a pump on the pto.i cant seem to find any photos of one.i think it is going up for sale because i got a 154 that i mow with and farmall a for the snowplowing. i'll post again after its up and running. brfarmall
