Throttle slips on '74 154
The throttle on my 1974 154 slowly creeps down (sometimes rather quickly) and won't hold its place. I understand this can be from a friction washer failing in the actual lever itself, but I haven't been able to look super closely at it. Once I get this taken apart is there a diy fix for it or am I stuck replacing the throttle lever assembly?

My 154 does same as yours. In the mean time till I get around to it ,I use a rubber band from lever to gas filler.

There is a friction nut that can be tightened under the dash.
Find the access hole on the left side of the dash where you can sneak in a socket and a short extension to snug up the nut. It is difficult to get to, but possible. Too tight and the throttle handle won't move, too loose and the throttle creeps back down.

I think part of the problem is that whatever causes the friction there has broken and fallen off. What can I replace that with?

My 185 started acting up and I replaced it with a vernier set type ---- problem solved. The lightweight factory type were junk from the start. They are not heavy enough to operate the governor spring! They should have had a rod like the regular cubs use. I was going to convert the other 185 to a rod but ended up junking the unit instead.

That's interesting, I didn't know such a thing even existed. I was thinking about attempting to fit something like this that should be able to hold its position and adjust easily.
