Lo-Boy Stuck in gear

Postby Doctor2034 » Tue May 18, 2021 8:16 am

Hello All,
I am new to this world. I recently purchased an IH Cub Lo-boy. It does not have any identification, as the tag is wore out. It was running fine and now stuck in 3rd gear. We removed the shift tower and found someone tried to braze the right shift fork. There is brass on the fork and shaft. The cup inside the shifter assembly is intact. I put the trans in neutral, replaced the shifter assembly and it still wont shift properly. I am not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a 154, 184 or a 185. May not matter they may be the same trans.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Welcome.

You said you replaced the shift assembly. New one or the old one?

Probably need to purchase another shift fork. Advertisers on this site should have them in stock. HamiltonBobs specializes in Numbered Cub LoBoys.

One more post and you can down load manuals. Upper left of this page, Quick links.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I did not get a new shift assembly, I just put the original back on.

Well, the How-To pictures are long gone, but here's the process to change a shift fork.

There was a really good how-to on the shifter as well. (which I can't seem to find) You may be having an issue with the shifter.

You will need to fix or replace the broken fork. You'll need to remove the top plate and get a visual on what is going on, its a pretty easy fix and Hamilton Bob carries the forks.

That part of the transmission is the same for both the 154, 185, and 184. I'd swap the forks first - as ibdilbert suggested.

I believe the shifter shafts the forks ride on will slide out once you remove the flywheel puck assembly. Then swap out the forks. Probably better to tack weld the replacement forks first. There known for cracking..
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
