Pulling the motor on my 184 Lo-boy

Postby PiersonChris » Mon May 11, 2020 9:52 pm

So I have the motor on my Lo-boy taken down to the motor mount bolts. My question: Does the the drive shaft have to be disconnected or will it slide forward and free after the motor mounts are removed?

It can slide forward, but probably won't go far enough to clear the PTO Pulley. It would take about 25 minutes to pull the driveshaft from under the tractor and make the engine MUCH easier to reinstall into the tractor.
1) Open and slide the C-Clip in front of the U-Joint Assembly forward.
2) Loosen the Allen Head set screws on the U-Joint Assembly (4 of them)
3) Slide the U-Joint Assembly forward
4) Pull the driveshaft down and slide back to clear the engine.
It's probably best if you don't remove the driveshaft completely as it is difficult to get in and out without removing the throwout bearing carrier. If it does come out, you will probably also have to remove the shift fork so that you can slide the throwout back onto the driveshaft for reinstallation.
