IH and other manufacturers wouldn't have different piston rings for their same basic engines going into different model tractors. The purchasing, shipping, stocking, installation process, would be more costly having different ring sets for engines with the same cylinder bore.Husk8806 wrote:IH seemed particular when it came to the lo boys. I found in the service manuals several detailed pics of the rings. Looked exactly like em. Single slotted oil ring.

most of the oil rings on these engines from the factory are one piece, modern replacements are 3 piece

Just a thought. If the rings all look good, and the cylinder bore looks good, is there a chance that all of the gaps (where the space is at the ends of the rings once installed) were lined up? I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but if all the gaps in the rings are lined up, or close, you'll get LOTS of blow by!!

Also check the rings end gaps. If out of specs, new rings.
