184/185 Hydraulic Control Valve
Has anyone disassembled and rebuilt one of these? I would love to hear about your experiences and any lessons learned. You can get the o rings from Case that were in the rebuild kits but I'm not sure from the drawing where they go??? I know it should be obvious when I get it apart but I like to get my stuff together before I take things apart. My lift works well but goes down without any external leakage anywhere so I figure it is in the valve unit. Thanks for any help in advance

Could be the cylinder piston seal worn and leaking by

Wouldn't that result in an external leak and fluid loss? I don't have either of those...

There are two different control valves listed in the parts manual. Suggest removing the valve and identifying prior to purchasing parts.
Most likely the valve will need an O ring or two. Probably available individually at any tractor dealership.

They are single action cylinders. A leaking cylinder piston seal would normally leak all over the floor.john2189 wrote:Could be the cylinder piston seal worn and leaking by

I have the later design that used primarily on the 185s and 184s. Also, I got the o rings from Case IH via Hoober Parts. They are pretty nice. The service kit lists the required o rings and 2 washers. They were able to cross reference the rings but not the washers--guess I'll cross that bridge as needed. The drawings just don't show where they go. I was just curious. I've never taken one of these things apart. Thanks

The process of replacing O rings is pretty simple. You shouldn't have a problem with which O ring goes where.

Re: 184/185 Hydraulic Control Valve
Do you have a 3pt hitch with the valve that switches from the rocker shaft to the 3pt hitch?
These valves can leak inside causing the implements to drop. They take 9/16” o rings.
If your changing o rings on the control valve lay the parts out the way come out in other. Then match the new o rings to the older ones during assembly. Remember to clean the valve body and spool. Check for burrs in the ports that can cut the new o rings. Remember to pre lube the valve body and spool with hyd oil before assembly.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I appreciate the idea! Without pics or more data you were trying to help. The best thing I've found so far was a post to the forum in Mar 2018 by Landreo. The books are just kinda vague on this
