185 trans capacity conflicting info?
I just got everything back together after pulling the transmission apart. I’m putting everything back together again and putting fluids in it, and I keep seeing references to 3 1/2 points and then other references to 7 quarts of capacity. What gives? 7 quarts seems excessive! Right now, I put in 3 1/2 pints and I have fluid just starting to come out of the small plug on the left-hand side… But I assume that there is going to be some pick up from all of the reservoir in the hydraulic tubing and filter, etc.

Check the Operator's Manual, lubrication table, for your tractor.
My 154 Operator's Manual. The 3 1/2 pints referees to the rear axle housing. The quantity ranges from 6 quarts to 7 2/3 quarts, depending on how the tractor is equipped, for the transmission.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Farmall Cubs transmissions use the 3 1/2 pints. (Their hydraulics are from a separate reservoir)
The 184 / 185 with hydraulics require the ~7 qts.
Some for each final drive, Some for the creeper, Most for the transmission and hydraulics. (More with 3-point, less without)
