I just read the service manual for the numbered tractors and it listed the 25 and 31 amps. The amp gauge on my 154 only goes to 20 amps.
The narrow framed Cub Cadets which takes the same basic starter/generator are only rated at 15 or 16 amps.
There are parts numbers on the starter/generator. You can use the part number to look up it's suggested maximum amp output.

This does bring up a good point. Check and verify the SG before buying a regulator. The SG isn't original. Could be why regulators keep blowing.
