184 rear main seal replacement

Postby Fordman » Wed Jul 19, 2017 8:10 am

Fixin to start on the replacement of the rear main seal on my 1978 184. Any tips from people who have completed this task would be great. Anything else I should replace while it's apart? Thanks

Contact Tim Talleur (tst) for a reworked retainer and seal.

Yes, give Tim (tst) a shout. He has an awesome deal, you send him your old seal retainer, and he sends you a new machined one with the correct new seal already installed. If you try to put a new seal in the old retainer, you'll likely be tearing it apart again because it will leak. Trust us!

Since you are pulling the driveshaft , you should probably change the PTO belts. Use OEM belts that are a matched pair.
