Trailer to get her home
Hi all! Total newbie here. I'm picking up a '77 Lo Boy 184 next weekend. This will be my first tractor It has a woods l59 belly mower mounted. I think that she will fit on a 6' wide trailer for the ride home. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, it will be tight, but will fit. The Woods 59 mower is 59" cut, so overall is about 62" to 64" wide. So, you should still have almost a foot of space on a 6-foot trailer. You'll need a little over 8-feet for the length.

Re: Trailer to get her home
Sweet! Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go tomorrow and buy a 6'x12'. Costs are adding up, but things are moving fast now. We'll be moving to our new mini-farm next week, still lots more to do, and I'm already ready for a break

You could rent a trailer for a few days to move the tractor and household goods.

I have a 5-1/2' x 10' trailer from Tractor Supply. The Woods 59 skids just barely rub on the sides with zero room for error or maneuver. If I take one skid off the mower, I can run it on and off pretty easily. You should be fine with a 6' wide trailer. Go slow when running it on to make sure the deck doesn't bottom out and snag at the apex.

Bear in mind that U-haul ramp trailers only have a 4'-9" opening. I assume that's to keep people from trying to transport things like cars and TRACTORS The mower deck won't fit through the opening.

Re: Trailer to get her home
There are equipment rental companies that offer open flat bed trailers suitable for hauling tractors. I just checked US Rents It, Jefferson City, Mo. and they offer several different sized suitable trailers.

The George Willer school of thought on trailer ownership: Everyone should own a couple trailers and at least one license plate.

Depending on finances, purchasing a trailer will be a good long term investment.BlueOutMyFlipFlop wrote:Costs are adding up.
But, renting will be initially less expensive.
I have 4 different sized trailers and two license plates. Wait, I have more if I count the boat trailers.

I have plates for all of mine, but here in Ohio, purple heart plates are free for injured veterans, such as myself.

Re: Trailer to get her home
I ended up driving down to KnK Trailers in Tazewell TN. Purchased a 6.5'x12' tube trailer. Would have preferred a dovetail, but he didn't have any in stock, and I didn't have any issues loading or unloading (picked higher ground to drop the ramp). I'm super happy that I decided to purchase vs. rent. It's nice to know that it's there when I need it. The trailer pulled great, and seems to be well constructed, and seemed like a fair price to me ($1150 with spare tire)
But it pales in comparison to how happy I am with the Lo Boy. I'm in love with that sexy sexy beast. She's leaking quite a bit of oil and the lights aren't working, but that will give me something to do over the winter I suppose. I'll be here often for advice and ideas. Lots of good info here.

My trailer is a 2016 Retco 6 x 12 dovetail with a 3 foot gate. I paid a bit more than what you paid, so if your trailer is built properly, you done good.
