Today I took all the newly painted parts for the planter and fertilzer attachment and installed them on Rex '48. Everything went well until....I tried to connect the counter shaft chain to the drive gear on the rear wheel. The chain was at least 10 inches short. It was short because we never had the right spring - nor did we run the chain as shown in the manual.
We need to plant corn tomorrow - what was I going to do? Into the "Bill Hudson" named "Magic Barn" Started digging through the boxes of IH stuff still with IBM punch cards attached. Here's what I found.
1. Two brand new Cub Cultivator Shovels - Varnish still visible on the front surface.
2. At least 10 feet of the chain I needed for the countershaft drive - still painted blue. Some of it was red.
3. 4 NOS vegetable planter hoppers
4. 1 Large hopper for a planter
5. NOS hyrdraulic pump for FCUB
6. NOS Hyrdaulic Lines from Pump to touch-control unit.
7. NOS Davidson Air Breather - The kind with a mason jar attached FCUB size.
8. NOS Richmond Hopper and complete countershaft.
The list goes on and on. But I am not done. I went up to the other barn got poking around in Dad's collection. Here is what I found there.
1. The orginal Owner's Manual for my FCUB - Inside in my Dad's handwriting was the serial number that matches Rex'48 21005. Pretty happy to have that..
2. More drop forged wrenches that match the bolts on the Cub - We carried these in the Cub toolbox when I was kid.
3. A set of Craftsman sockets in a special case for Square Nuts.
4. I don't know how to define all the cool old stuff in that barn either.
It was quite a day at the farm.

Ken, You should spend less time painting and more time digging around in the magic barn.

Re: Saturday at the Farm and Magic Barn
Given that I just found a NOS PTO pulley for the C22 mower - IBM card still attached - ya'll are probaly correct. That being said - I can't paint in the winter because of the size of my shop - so when it gets too cold to paint I'll have to get going in there.

Clint - it's a Bill Hudson name given to a barn at our farm. Here's why. In the early 1960's my father bought the inventory from a local IH Dealer that was closing. I was 5-6 years old at that time. The boxes and boxes of stuff got put into the Granary - in our Dutch Barn - Dad never really did anything with all that stuff.
The name started during the restoration of Rex '48 - I walked in there and after a short did found a NOS clutch for my 48.
Bill - Named it the Magic Barn from that day forward.

Re: Saturday at the Farm and Magic Barn
Was taking the planter off Rex'48 today in the magic barn. I was drawn to the wooden door of the granary - I took a break - went into the IH inventory room. I moved some tin sheets - lifted the lid on a box and guess what I found?
A whole box of plow bolts, all sizes of square nuts and digging a bit deeper I located 7/16" keyed plow bolts - Yup - the ones I searched all over the internet for. Gonna have to spend more time in there - now all I need is the time.
