Almost Spring

Postby Don McCombs » Sat Apr 11, 2015 3:21 pm

The serviceberry (locally pronounced "sarvis") trees are just about ready to bloom here in Mountain Maryland. That means there's at least one more snow to fall while they are in bloom. We'll see. :D

We determine when spring is about here by the tornadoes.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Central Missouri. House lawn was mowed for the 2nd time yesterday. Had several day time temperatures in the 70's. Great for sitting on the porch swing.

Soil temperature at 2", 4", and 6", in the low 50's.
I have an excuse. CRS.

our dogs decided they wanted to pick and eat our asparagus, before we got out to pick enjoy it. I will be putting up something around the bed to keep them away from the patch today.

I have rabbits girdling my blackberries. I put 3 foot chicken wire around them, last fall. We got 4 feet of snow, and they mowed the berries down! Cheaper to buy the fruit, than the fence!

As I (and tradition) predicted, the serviceberries are now in bloom. Yesterday we got 2 inches of wet snow.

Don, I have a friend that lives near Deep Creek, and he sent me a picture yesterday of the snow. I couldn't believe it. I took my snow plow off last weekend, so keep the white stuff out West.
