Re: poor soil
If you go to all raised beds you will not have a drainage problem as long as all the plants are in the raised beds.Jack wrote:I want to go with all raised beds next season because of my drainage problem
Edit. Put a thin layer of gravel at the bottom of the raised bed.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: poor soil
Thanks, the raised beds are the way I think I will go.
I made my others from 2x12x8
do you think 2x8 will work just as good

Re: poor soil
2x8 should be fine. Even raised beds, made by hillers, without frames, work well. Water is heavy. Gravity helps remove it from raised areas.

Re: poor soil
We had similar problems in our garden last year, and there are 2 things that completely solved it: raised beds (free-standing) and a broadfork. after you plow/till, just make nice long beds headed up/down slope that are at least 10 inches high and level the tops. you can make them wide or narrow depending on what you grow. then use the broadfork for deep aeration in the rows. the broadfork is surprisingly easy, and the rest can be done from the seat of your cub! we use disk hillers to throw up the beds and a drag to level. other than that, just keep adding compost or grow a green manure and till it in. Good luck!
