Hybrid Fishing on the Chattahoochee

Postby Tezell » Fri Apr 05, 2013 7:22 pm

Went fishing this morning. Nearly froze to death trying to catch shad with my cast net.
3 of us brought out 16 hybrids and 4 flat heads.

Fish for lunch on Sunday! :D :D

Wow great catch!! Seems odd to catch flat heads and hybrids together. What were you using for bait??

Ricky, here in the TN River system, we catch flathead, channel and blue cats along with hybrids(striped bass, rockfish or what ever else ya wanna call them) out of the same water using Gizzard shad, cut bait or small bluegills.

Ricky, what Dale said.

I caught threadfin shad with the cast net in the locks. That is how I got wet and then cold. The cool snap scattered the shad and they were pretty hard to get.

And, if you have never had Flathead catfish, you are missing something. They are by far the best tasting of the catfish family, and their belly meat is great.

Tim, Dad asked me to go fishing today, so we went below the Watts Bar Dam. The stripers were hitting(for those fishing them) and so were the channel cats. We lucked into the one striped Bass. Caught 16 total. Left early due to the heat and sun.
