Very strange season

Our state has been keeping track on crop mass for a little over 40 years. Last year( 09 ) was recorded as being the worst, we lost a lot of deer that year. The following year ( 10 ) was the largest recorded, you could go out and scoop acorns up by the buckets. There were so many that game feeders and food plots were not hot spots as they usually are.

Now it's the month of March and we still have deer everywhere running around with antlers yet. It's common to see a stray every now and then but we're seeing groups of them all over the place. My friend at work hit a real nice 6 Pt with his truck driving in this week. Several farmers coming in the shop are seeing all sizes of bucks still running with antlers....

I'm not seeing the herds in the open fields like we always had so I know the numbers are down. Rutting times didn't seem as active this year so this might have something to do with it.

Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before in your area ?

Yep, same around here. Acorns all over the place and deer still wearing their racks. Not long ago we were lucky to see any racks after Feburary. Grump

Yep, same thing here. Seen a 6 pointer about two weeks ago. I have shot deer in late December and their antlers would pop off when they hit the ground and have had them pop off in my hand when dragging them. Don't know what is going on.

Haven't seen any unshed antlers this spring, but there are plenty of deer. Too many, in fact. Too much posted ground.
