Put 18 acres in popcorn/sweetcorn/pumpkins or something you can sell, and 2 acres in garden. You'll still have all the produce you need on 2 acres. Sounds like fun.

There is no way that you can weed/cultivate/hoe/ etc. any 20 acres!---dont even waste your time on it. rent it to the guy down the road for cash rent and smile all the way to the bank.
For your home garden you only need about a half acre!---and if kept weeded that will produce way more than you can use.---as far as selling, well in this area we cant even give the produce away!----no body will come get it.
We have major overrun of produce every year and fill our storage and harvest some for next years seed and plow the rest under. thanks; sonny

GOOD GRIEF DIRTYRED how are you going to harvest all that? I turn over about 3/4 acre and have plenty for the neighbors and still have plenty for The Farmers Market. I would fence off 1 acre and rent the rest for hay or grazing. That will plenty be enough for another Cub.

like Sonny said, keep us posted how you do it step by step, and with some pictures.

I rent the 40 acres next to my house. Part of that 40 is a 9 acre parcel between two ravines. I've considered gardening that 9 acres, but every time I go up there with the cub and play around (chopping corn stalks, plowing, cultivating...) I realize how much work it would be so I just rent it out for the next year (rent here is $150-$200 per acre so that extra 9 acres adds up). Once the crop gets higher than the bottom of the tractor you can't cultivate and weed control is an issue. Garden plants are not "round-up ready" either. It really sounds like fun if a guy has a lot of time, help and a market for the produce. I'd like to do it with the 9 acres, but don't have enought time and help, plus the extra rent money is nice.

I know a truck farmer who grows vegetables on 20 acres. It's a full time, 11 month job, for his family of 4. Yup, 11 months. Non growing and harvesting time is spent contacting and contracting with wholesalers.

I agree with the others. Suggest having uncle cash rent the 20 acres to a neighboring farmer.

well i think we gonna plant 7 acres in sweet taters 2 acres in sweet corn acre of peas and the rest in feild corn for deer feed in the fall. ya get 35-40 dollars a barrel for shelled corn. i think he would rent it out but nobody farms over there where he lives it is all woods or hunting preserve. deer everywhere might not make a thing! UNLESS :jeep:

plant it all in corn, put a tall stand with roof, insulation, etc, in the middle, and charge for the use of it.

I never plant more than 6 cucumber seeds and cant get rid of all they produce!----sweet tater plants are around a buck each, unless you grow your own, OR get one heck of a discount from comm. grower, each acre would require thousands of plants if properly planted!---Deers, rabbits, and dont forget VOLES will destroy any possible production, then comes the harvest, (if any) and then the marketing of the crop!(around here you cant even give the stuff away! --no body wants it!) this is just the tip of the iceberg! there is more----LOTS more! good luck with the project!---We need to see pics of it as the season goes along! thanks; sonny
