Farmall Cub

I was just wondering how everyone's gardens around the country have grown this year?
I have a small size garden, about 30 tomato plants, planted 3 pounds of potatoes, green beans, corn, green peppers.
My garden did awesome this year and hopefully next year I'll be able to get more out of it.

Mine didn't do too well. May and June were cold and wet. July and August were dry. The deer decimated the tomatoes. I'm looking forward to next year.

Nobody around here did well.I thought it was just my first year garden.NOPE!! Everybody was bumming.Can't wait till next year.Kevin

The drought here wasnt as much of a problem as the DEER !! We did not get anything, save a few tomatoes. Looking forward to next year - my uncle says I can have his garden and I'm thinking about doing my own too. Gotta see if I can work out a schedule though !

About the only thing that grew as well as the vegetables was the grass. We got so much rain we only got the garden tilled once. Just kept weed eating it the rest of the summer. Squash, cucumbers, did ok, tomatoes and cantaloupe nearly buried us, as did the green beans. Finally got so much okra we didn't have any freezer room, so we mowed it down. Almost to big to get the flail through. Watermelons just keep growing, but not ripening. Not sure what will happen with them.

Worst year I ever had. Horrible tomatoes the only thing that was good was the corn and strawberries....

We are buried in tomatoes beef steak as well as plumb cherry and small yellow that all the neighbor kids eat like candy, beans, carrots, beets, Peppers both bell and hot, white and purple egg plant, yellow squash, zucchini, cuccacele (Italian Squash), snow peas and pumpkins. The cucumbers didn't do that well this year but we had enough for fresh but none for pickles. Bev generally does well with all she plants. The neighbors claim she could plant clothes pins and get a tree. I have transplanted up state some forsythia and lilacs she started here as well as 2 black walnut trees she stared from nuts. Speaking of nuts she still has me.

We had a so so year. Deer seems to be a common complaint and I had my troubles with them too. Thing is they left my tomatoes alone but ate 2/3 of my cantalopes. Raccoons got about half my corn. Good thing I planted enough to share. We had a good yield of corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini and peppers. The cantalopes we did get were awesome. Not sure what it is about this dirt but it grows the sweetest cantalopes I've ever tasted.

Next year with the lil cub's help I hope to have twice the garden I did this year.

horrible, did I say horrible. To much rain in the spring, garden never ever recovered. I got a ton of cherry tomatos, lost 3 plantings of field corn. strawberry plants died from the flooding. However I did do good with my gourds and small pumpkins. Big pumpkins hurt alot from the rain and ground hogs.

Not good. Planted some vegatables 3 times. To much rain. To cold early on. Lost first strawberry crop planted.

Tomatoes ok. Small yellow watermellons - great. Everything else - zilch.

Excellent for most varieties that we planted,-----Except bell peppers!--- they didn't make any peppers at all.
We still have peanuts and sweet potatoes to dig,----sample digs from them look good, so may have good crop of them IF the mice and voles stay out of them! thanks : sonny

Mine did well. Had to water in July. Cows got most of the corn. Cows have been "fired". Should have a good corn crop next year. Ed

Yeah i can't wait till next year! I'm hoping that I will have found some land of my own by that time so I can make a huge garden and sell the vegetables or something. I've figured that i have the green thumb of my grandmother's becuase my mom has never had a garden as good as mine.

Main garden did not do well at all. Much too wet early then too muddy to get in and weed. I ended up plowing it all up and planted turnips in the whole thing. They are doing great. Probably nearly an acre and a half of good looking turnips. Not sure what to do with them. A local grocery has bought 90 lbs but that does not begin to get rid of them. Been giving them to everyone I know. The deer are enjoying them too. I've been throwing the excess greens across the fence to my cousins cattle and they stand in line for them

Planted two rows of tomatoes up near the house and they did fairly well. Cherry tomatoes did the best followed by Romas.

Beefsteak not so good.

I cleaned the bean teepees and tomato cages off mine Saturday, ran the flail over it and plowed it all under. Most did pretty good except for the watermelons which never did ripen. vines died while they were still growing and they had hard spots in the center and no taste. We set an all time moisture record in this area, 52 inches of rain since the first of the year.
