Gardens for 2021 season

got 2 seed flats planted, set them on heat mats, sprinkled water on the mix and put the dome on, nice and warm this morning!
1 flat of golden acre cabbage and 1 flat of Delicious tomatoes. The rest of the seeds will go outside in the hotbed as soon as I can get a decent day to work outside.

spread part of the new compost out before I till the fall plowed ground. dragged the landscape rake over it----worked o.k. now to hit it with the big tiller. got rained out today and onion plants just arrived so everything is on hold for now!

I took a chance and planted some onions (about 120) today! Wow 3/24/2021!

Hard to believe the weather we are having!

Usually it is too soggy to even think about planting this time of the year for me!!!!

onion plants in the ground. planted in the rain -- only had 18 bunches this year--- gave 12 bunches to a guy down the road, so that takes care of the 30 bunch case we bought.
ended up with 3 long rows across the south garden.

found 1 strawberry plant blooming and its WAY too early for them to be blooming.

seed flats starting to grow ------ centers not doing much! HMMMMM---- oh well plenty of plants around the outside of the trays for a few early plants. I want a few early plants and some later to spread out the harvest so it dont happen at the same hour!
About time to plant the hotbed by the house for the main crop stuff. Been too cold so I was waiting for ground to warm up a bit.

Tato planting tomorrow. if all goes well. got my old planter greased and ready to go. this will be 35 years I have used it since I made it.

Have over 300 pounds to plant. Some will be planted at our club showgrounds for potato digger demo., so will see how that goes.

Finished the planting here and did 180 pounds. had 10 rows 240 feet long. Too wet at the showgrounds to plant them, so gotta wait a few days on them. We have 150 pounds to plant up there.
Pulled my old homemade planter with one of our old sunstar 20's. worked excellent hydro in these are much smoother that our cc147.

Greenhouse is half full of plants, with more seeds, germinating in the basement. Will be overflowing, in a couple of weeks, when I transplant more seedlings. Cool weather crops will move intothe cold frame, by then.

Seeds planted Mothers day here....no plants outside till a week before memorial day....heck....we had snow on the ground last friday morning....80 F today

I’ve got 16 90 ft rows hilled up and putting stakes in for tomatoes now. I’ve moved my first 100 tomato plants out of the greenhouse to harden off before planting next week. I have several hundred more at various stages in the greenhouse and more seed planted that hasn’t germinated yet. I’m planning on setting out about a hundred plants every two weeks until the end of June. I’m planning on a total of between 6-7 hundred tomato plants total. We should be past anymore frosts in Raleigh NC but we did have a couple of late ones last year. I grow mainly heirloom varieties but I’m going to do some hybrids too. I’ll plant some other veggies after I get a good start on tomatoes. I sell produce at a small stand at my house and tomatoes bring me the best income. I sure hope we don’t get as much rain this summer as we got last year

try bush green beans.....I made a lot of cash selling them in plastic bags.....5 to 7 pounds 5 bucks..I'd sell 10 bags no problem...Easy pickens

Green beans are definitely in the plan. Tenderette bush green beans did well last year. Will also have some silver queen corn, yellow and zucchini squash, cucumbers and pink eye purple hill peas

I tilled a spot for peas, today. Planting them tomorrow. Next week, tomatoes go out under plastic. I hate store tomatoes, an keep trying to get home grown ones as early as I can.
