The one I'm after has all but lost his velvet and didn't show up yesterday. Maybe I stank from sitting in the 92 degree heat.

Nice Buck! Congratulations on a successful hunt!
I thoroughly enjoyed this thread watching the preparation and the pre-season camera pics.

Thanks! That is some good eating, picked it up from the processor already. Got 72 pounds of meat off this one. Best I can figure with everything I've spent this year and the process fee we have about $45 a pound in it

Yeah, but you can't look at it that way.
Went goose hunting with my Dad on the Eastern Shore of Maryland just before Thanksgiving in 1986. His treat. I was newly engaged and didn't have the funds to spend on a hunting trip.
Federal and State Stamps, Hunting Licenses, 4 nights lodging, guide service, meals, gas, tolls, etc. Came home with 13 birds. Worked out to about $15/lb as I recall. 5 1/2 years later my Dad passed away from cancer at age 65.

Sorry for the loss of your dad. It's the memories made that mean the most.

If we looked at what things cost we wouldn't be playing with old tractors. I grew up hunting with my dad, my brother and I would go with him every chance we got. He will be 70 next month and can't shoot a gun or drag a deer if he had to. His back is bad and they can't do anything for it after 7 back surgeries. I need to take him this year and let him enjoy nature, maybe he and my son and I can go.

Buckwheat has been planted 19 days and hasn’t had any rain. It’s doing good.
