Smoker, getting ready to smoke meat.

Postby Eugene » Tue Mar 28, 2017 9:28 pm

Got beef heart and tongue in cure, brine, pickling spices. Was telling son about smoking the heart and tongue on a small charcoal fired grill. Son said he wanted a smoked beef roast. Hadn't planned on cranking up the large propane fired smoker, only a small charcoal fired smoker for the heart and tongue.

Decided if I was going to fire up the propane smoker for 6 hours, load it up. Couple of beef roasts, Canadian bacon, the beef heart and tongue. Perhaps some fish. Might throw in some potatoes and onions.

Good thing we have freezers. Wife complains when we frequently have the same thing for lunch and dinner.
I have an excuse. CRS.

If I were still in high school I would be classified as with attention deficit disorder. Crappy weather, I have to have something to do, just can't sit for very long. So, I cook, bake, indoor work on a couple of farm related projects, make wood toys for my great grand kids, even wash dishes.

Wife thinks (well she says) I'm a great cook. Her complaint is that I make 6 quarts of chili and there are two of us at home.

It costs no more to smoke and cook 30 or 40 lbs. of meat and vegetables than it does 2 or 3 lbs.

Have a 18 - 20 lb. turkey in the freezer. Purchased on sale at 89 cents a lb. Been thinking about using the saws all and cutting the frozen turkey in half. Not sure what the wife would say if I told her I used a demolition blade in the saws all to cut the turkey in half. Probably won't tell her.

Once resorted to using a sawzall and a new blade when I found myself holding a 30# watermelon and lacking a long knife. Worked great.

It sounds like you'll be stocked with smoked food for a while. Just wash/sterilize the blade, it'll be fine.
