New Brower Hog Feeder

Postby PVF1799 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 6:48 am

Got a little tired of feeding two and sometime three times per day - like Dad always did - because there was more time back then. Looked about internet and found this Brower Hog Feeder - Seemed like a good idea. Ordered it - put it together and let them learn how to use it. It holds 300 pounds of our Non-GMO feed.

It didn't take them long to figure out how it worked.

It was funny - they had a open trough with a chute feeder. We let the food get down in that - they were not eating from the new one - so we took it away. It took them 2 days to figure it out.....At times they all try to eat from the same one - even though there are 4 doors.

It's saving us so much work.

……I don't do that kind of thing anymore either….But whew, we used to do it like you as a youngster…Actually I was in my early 20's the last time my Dad decided to raise them…Then he went in the house on butchering day….And left it to us boys…We did it all and even smoked them in an old refrigerator we had with holes in the floor and corn cobs and smoldering maple... under it for a fire….Did it all except beef when we were kids…The ol man was a tough ol coot, POW wounded etc in WW2, but after about 7 to 10 chicken beheadings he'd have to take a walk…Ah fond memories...

Good looking pigs. when they get around 85 lbs they will be rough on that feeder. You will need to have it secured very well and they may still tear it up , most likely you will need to go to a heaver feeder.

Agree, next to a high school aged boy a hog is the most destructive force on the planet.

This is what my dad uses. They are the Cadillac of hog feeders. Not indestructible, but as close as you'll get:
